Bassermann-Jordan 2019 Ungeheuer Riesling Grand Cru dry, 75cL WineBy Winebuyers

£70.60

The Bassermann-Jordan 2019 Ungeheuer Riesling Grand Cru dry is a wine from the Forster Ungeheuer vineyard, located west of the wine village of First on the slopes of the Haardt Mountains. The vineyard is named after Johann Adam Ungeheuer, a former town clerk of Deidesheim who died in 1699. His gravestone can still be found today next to the old church in Mussbach. The former Chancellor of the Reich, Otto von Bismarck, said about the wine from this vineyard: 'This Ungeheuer tastes monstrous to me!' The vines in Ungehauer are up to 35 years old, and the grapes are used to produce the Big Growth. After a selective harvest, the grapes were gently pressed, and the must was spontaneously aged in wooden barrels after sedimentation of the trub. Shortly before filling in July, the individual batches were racked off by the yeast and filled. The nose is spicy, almost ethereal, with exotic fruit, smoke, and subtle flinty notes. In the mouth, you first notice the fine acidity paired with dark minerality and saltiness. The wine is available in a 75cl size and is suitable for both men and women.
