£73.60

Bassermann-Jordan 2019 Kalkofen Riesling Grand Cru dry is a wine from the Palatinate wine growing area. The vineyard is located on the western brim of the town of Deidesheim, and the name Kalkofen is related to an old limestone-brick oven in the middle-ages, indicating a high content of limestone in this part of the vineyards, which offers a lot of minerality to the vines. The exposition of the vineyard is east, south-east, guaranteeing a lot of direct sun influence from the early morning to the late afternoon. The soil is a mix of sandy and clay soils with several in-layers of limestone. This Riesling was made from hand-selected grapes, harvested and pressed in several passes. The must was sedimented overnight and then fermented in stainless steel tanks. The individual batches were combined shortly before filling in July. The wine shows white peach, apple, and passion fruit aromas, with an almost chalky minerality and saltiness paired with fresh acidity. It has an alcohol content of 12.5% vol. and a residual sugar of 3.2 g. The wine comes in a 75cl size and is suitable for both men and women.
