Domenico Fraccaroli,Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore DOC, 2020

£33.25

ABOUT THE WINE. Founded in 1958 by Domenico Fraccaroli, the family estate now spans Friuli and Veneto, with the Grotta del Ninfeo property in Lavagno (Verona) dedicated to the classics of Valpolicella. Today, brothers Domenico and Luca craft elegant, regionally expressive wines. The 2020 Ripasso Superiore is a hallmark of that style: Valpolicella refermented on the Amarone skins, then matured (typically around 12 months in French oak tonneaux) to marry richness with lift. A warm, even vintage in Valpolicella delivered ripe, pristine fruit with excellent balance.. TASTING NOTES. Inviting aromas of ripe red cherry, morello and dried cranberry, with gentle raisin, cinnamon, clove and cocoa from well-judged oak. The palate is smooth and medium-full, combining succulent red fruit with hints of dried herbs, cedar and sweet spice. Silky tannins and a lively acid line keep things poised; the finish is long and savoury, echoing cherry, spice and a touch of amarena.. FOOD PAIRING. Brilliant with rabbit ragù, feathered game, roast pork loin, or lasagne al forno. Also superb alongside mature hard cheeses and wild-mushroom dishes.. FRIARWOOD SAYS. Ripasso’s “second pass” over Amarone skins adds depth, warmth and complexity while preserving Valpolicella’s freshness. The 2020 is especially harmonious and refined—a versatile red for the table now, with upside over the next 5–7 years.
