AMAZON Any compilation with a glittery cover and the word Massive in the sub-title is bound to deliver the necessary pop-filled excitement. At first glance Hits Zone 2000 may seem like another generic compilation of chart hits but on closer inspection there is actually something quite different about the selection. There is no token rock track and no can't leave the house without hearing it super-smash as you would expect on the more established compilations. However there is a really thoughtful running order. The first disc (with the odd exception) is pure sugar pop with Britney's Born To Make You Happy Backstreet Boys and a big dollop of Steps. Apart from the Vengaboys' effort the second disc is hits from clubland which just waver on the boundaries of popdom. It's great for a quick dance before going out although you might want to skip the lovely yet slightly maudlin Porcelain. Two great discs for different occasions. What's more without any overplayed anthems it'll keep away the boredom that can strike when you hear your favourite song just one time too many. --David Trueman
