Scilla mischtschenkoana (also sold as Scilla Tubergeniana) produces porcelain-white flowers with a clear blue central stripe from as early as late January, making it one of the earliest bulbs in the spring garden. An RHS Award of Garden Merit holder, it naturalises quietly in woodland edges, rockeries and under deciduous trees. Plant it with snowdrops for the earliest possible combination.
