Poderi Luigi Einaudi Barolo Villero 2021

£65.68

Drink it now or cellar for up to 25 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour. Located in Dogliani, Poderi Luigi Einaudi is a Piedmontese winery with a long family tradition dating back over a century, having been founded in 1897. Today, the company, which owns vineyards in some of the area's best crus, is managed by Matteo Sardagna, the great-grandson of Luigi Einaudi. The Nebbiolo grapes are carefully selected from a small plot of approximately half a hectare, planted in 1969 at 250 meters above sea level, in the Villero subzone in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto. Here, the vines enjoy southern and southwest exposure and sandy, calcareous marl soils. After vinification in cement vats, the finished wine ages first in oak barrels and then in the bottle. In the glass, Barolo Villero reveals a brilliant, hazelnut-red color with orange highlights. On the nose, it releases exuberant aromas of black cherry, ripe raspberry, and red berries, with hints of violet, followed by touches of licorice, spices, and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is well-structured and smooth, with a full body and a pleasant, refreshing acidity. It has firm, well-integrated tannins that will ensure a long life. The finish is long and elegant, with notes of tar and spices. Try it with tagliolini with roast gravy, hare stew, or braised beef cheek.
