Pierre Mayeul, Ladoix White, 2020

£62.10

ABOUT THE PRODUCER. Pierre Mayeul is the story of three old friends united by a passion for Burgundy and a shared goal: to craft wines that faithfully express each appellation’s terroir and climat. With deep Burgundian roots, they vinify in an historic château in Ladoix and mature their wines in 17th-century cellars in the heart of Beaune. 2020 was a warm, early vintage with modest yields and excellent fruit purity – ideal for concentrated yet finely balanced whites. Maturation remains classic: 50% new oak, slow fermentation, and 15 months on lees with bâtonnage for texture and complexity.. TASTING NOTES. Lemon-gold in the glass. An intense, precise bouquet of mirabelle, ripe pear and acacia honey, with subtle brioche and a whisper of hazelnut from well-judged oak. The palate opens round and juicy with citrus oil and stone-fruit richness, driven by bright, 2020 acidity that keeps everything fresh. A fleshy, silky mid-palate leads to a long, mineral finish – luscious fruit wrapped in purity and poise.. FOOD PAIRING. Pan-fried scallops, butter-poached turbot, roast chicken with morels, veal in a creamy mushroom sauce, and soft to semi-hard cheeses like Brie de Meaux or 18-month Comté..
