The 'Blauschiefer', which means 'blue slate', is an excellent example of the extraordinary combination of slate-rich soil and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) grapes. The stony soil creates a mineralic wine with fruity aromas of blackberry, blueberry, red currant, and dark cherry, accompanied by smoky, floral, and roasted notes. This dry Spätburgunder has a good substance, smooth tannins, and elegance. The Ahr vineyard, where the grapes were grown, has soil rich in slate and greywacke. The wine is a perfect accompaniment to poultry, light meat, pasta, and mushroom dishes, as well as a spicy or grilled fish. It's best served at a temperature of 15-16°C.
The Meyer-Näkel 2021 Spätburgunder Blauschiefer QbA dry, 75cL would be perfect for wine enthusiasts seeking an elegant, full-bodied dry red wine.
