Hacienda Monasterio's Reserva is a fine example of Ribera del Duero wine. The estate, located near Valbuena de Duero at an altitude of 730 meters, overlooks the valley and has a 160ha vineyard with a mix of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Malbec. The wines are vinified in a gravity-fed winery at the top of the vineyards with careful selection of fruit and aging in a mix of old and new French oak. The Reserva bottling is made from the finest south-facing vineyard parcels, with a blend of 80% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit is 100% destemmed and ferments with 28 days of maceration. Barrel ageing takes place over 16 months, including 40% new Allier oak. This results in a compact black stone fruit concentration with purple flower fragrance and chiseled mineral nuance in the fruit, silky and structured.
This Hacienda Monasterio Reserva Ribera del Duero Red Wine would make a perfect addition to a wine cellar for aficionados of delicate, full-bodied reds from Spain.
