A ski base doesn’t slide directly on the snow but on tiny droplets of water created by the friction between the base and the snow. The more the base is in contact with the snow, the better it glides. The idea behind a wax with an additive is to quickly drain these droplets of water to enhance glide and speed up skiing. The purpose of the boosters is to enable a strong acceleration from the start for maximum speed.
