Balla Géza's Furmint is a fine old-vine wine from the Minisz region of Romania. This 75cl bottle is part of the Stonewine line, sourced from a low-yielding, south-facing slope named Öreg-dólár – ‘old vineyard’ in Paulis – with rocky granite soils. The grapes are 100% Furmint and the wine has an alcohol content of 14.55%. It's aged on the lees in half stainless, half large Hungarian oak barrels for 6-8 months, resulting in a duality of fruity and savoury flavours like juicy peach, ripe apple, and lemon zest, with a long, peppery finish. This Furmint pairs well with Thai food, vegetable stir fry, sweet and sour shrimp, poultry, pasta with white sauces, and cheeses like Gouda and Emmental.
