2020 Chamirey, 1er Cru Clos du Roi

£127.30

ABOUT THE WINE. A 95-hectare estate (37-hectares of vineyard) covering some of the finest terroirs in Mercurey. The château, overlooking the village of Chamirey, was built in the early 18th Century, and saw a succession of owners before coming into the Devillard family through marriage. The estate began bottling its own wines in 1934, making it a forerunner in the region.. TASTING NOTES. Deep and velvety red colour. The nose is intense showing ripe raspberries and blueberries along with well integrated oak. There is a great intensity in the mouth which is balanced with freshness and a long finish with a salty touch. Drinking well now, or can be cellared for 10-15 years.. FOOD PAIRING. Pairs well with grilled prime rib or baked fish, or a Tomme de Savoie cheese.. FRIARWOOD SAYS. Aged in French oak, 30% new, for 16 months.
