Originally forming in Scotland in 1982, Primal Scream were key to the C86 indie scene inthe UK. They were signed by Alan McGee to Elevation Records in 1987 for their debutalbum, Sonic Flower Groove. Featuring Bobby Gillespie on vocals Jim Beattie and AndrewInnes on guitar, and Robert Young on bass, the sound of their debut is very different to thedance orientated groove they pioneered in the 1990s. Very much influenced by Nuggets, psychedelic pop and garage rock of 1960s America, the album was preceded by twosingles of their Byrdsinfused indiepop Gentle Tuesday, released June 1987, andImperial, released September 1987. Featuring a number of nonalbum cuts, Im Gonna Make YouMine was originally released by The Shadows of Knight, and Pete Townsends So Sad About Uswas originally recorded by The Who.
